Each fava pod is a protein powerhouse, plus adds high dietary fibre with less carbs than almost every other pulse on the market. The list of vitamins and minerals reads like a multivitamin label; the deliciousness of the bean has made it a healthy staple in many cultures around the world.
The good news: the fava bean adds health in other ways too.
When farmers grow fava beans, they are actually restoring the soil that the plants grow in—it’s the highest nitrogen-fixing pulse around, requiring less intervention to repair soil. It also thrives in cool, wet weather, is extremely hardy, and is a natural choice for a healthy crop rotation—with the added bonus of creating an additional source of income.

Our roots are in a 320-acre family farm in Manitoba that evolved into a 2,000-acre seed farm and thriving company.
In 2015, one of our founders, Cale, decided to join forces with his wife Hailey to carry on his great-great-grandpa’s tradition and evolve the company in yet a new direction. Prairie Fava was born from their realization that the demand for gluten-free, protein-rich products would continue to grow, and that the benefits that fava has for the entire food production system could transform how the world eats.
